I recently bought a new eMachine PC with Windows7. I have two versions of Norton Ghost - 8.5 and 10. When I tried to use the v8.5 to create a ghost image, the software always failed at the step where it will load the CD/DVD driver. I tried to choose different driver when it prompt me for options, but all the drivers I tried, i.e., vide-cd.sys, atapicd.sys and oakcdrom.sys failed to load. So I switch to version 10 of the Norton Ghost. But it simply blue-screened!

I called Norton for tech help. I was told that the old versions before 15 are not compatible with windows7. But don't think it is a window7 issue since at the time when the Ghost software is trying to load the CD/DVD driver during boot up, the windows7 is not running at all. I kind of feel that it is the DVD/CD driver that came with the norton ghost is not compatible with CD/DVD ROM on the computer. In the BiOS, it shows the DVD is a P0-Hitach HD7721032SLA380.

Does anyone have any insight ? thanks in advance.

Jim
