How to Remove Pop Up Ads for Cyber Defender From My Computer

Many types of malicious computer programs are disguise themselves as beneficial programs to encourage installation, then prove troublesome or difficult to remove in the long run. One of these "bait-and-switch" tactics involves a program called Cyber Defender, software which purportedly keeps your computer safe from infection, but in actuality plagues it with endless pop up ads. Removing these ads is a fairly simple process so long as you remember roughly when they began appearing.

1
Navigate to the system restore center in your operating system. Accomplish this by going to the "Start" menu, then to "All Programs," then to the "Accessories" folder, then to the "System Tools" folder. System restore is a program that will "dial back" your computer to a previous date before Cyber Defender Pop Up Ads were installed on your computer.

2
Select a restore date from the calender that is somewhere before the ads started appearing on your machine. Do not worry if you cannot remember the exact date--just choose a restore point that is roughly where the ads began appearing (e.g. one week ago, one month ago, etc.). Follow through the on-screen instructions to initiate the automated system restore process.

3
Reboot your computer to complete the system restore process. This reboot will take an exceptionally long time, as your operating system will be reversing time--restoring all of your program options and settings to the chosen date. Thus, this reboot can take anywhere from one to ten minutes, so do not be alarmed if it seems as though your computer has frozen.
