Question about Tax return for F1-H1 9999992006-04-01 21:14:13

Hi there,

I have come to the US for more than 6 years. So I can file a federal tax return like a resident for the tax purpose. However, I changed F1 visa to H1 on April 1, 2005. My question is "Can I still take the $5000 tax exempt (for the first three months) while filing 1040 like a resident for the tax year 2005?". Actually, $5000 had been deducted from my payrolls of the first two months and such deduction had been shown in my W2.
