U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published a proposed rule on February 1, 2007, containing substantial increases in the current fees for immigration benefits and petitions. If implemented, the rule will affect among other filings those related to immigration employment. In the university setting, the increase in fees will affect among others the following nonimmigrant and immigrant petitions:
· I-129 -- increase from $190 to $320 (H-1B’s, O-1’s, TN’s)
· I-140 -- increase from $195 to $475 (Employment Based 1st, 2nd and 3rd Preference immigrant petitions)
In addition the increase in fees will also impact the adjustment of status process:
· I-485 -- increase from $325 to $905 (Adjustment of Status to Permanent Resident)
· I-131 -- increase from $170 to $305 (Advanced Parole)
· I-765 -- increase from $180 to $340 (Employment Authorization Card)
