I suspect many people have similar situation as follows:
"I was a dependent of a pending 485 case and aleady have an A#. If I file another 485 based on my own employment(140 pending),should I write down the A# , or should I leave it blank because my case is separate?"
From a brief browse of old posts, there seems to be two views.
1) Leaving A# blank may result in two A# given by USCIS. This may result in the case being transferred to local office and an interview required. (Per Xiaobaitu, if I am correct)
2) Writting down the old A# may result in a request from USCIS to withdraw one case.
By the way, I hear that just applying for two 485 does not occupy visa quota because visa numbers are used up only in the last and on approval of 485. People who have applied can withdraw the other application, upon receipt of notice.
