I am J-1 holder. The J-1 was issued in Jan. 2003. My existing program will be end at June 30. I have applied for J-1 waiver and got the recommendation letter for US DOS June 8 (I am still waiting for the final decision from USCIS). Now I want to extend my J-1 program. But the International Affaire staff told me I can not make any extension in J-1. I can only apply for H1. The Professor and the Department support my H1 application; however, it usually needs long time to get approved. I was told that I have only month more to stay here after my J-1 program. That means I have to come back at the end of next month if I can not get the H1 then.
Any help from any one is greatly appreciated.
