of the Taiwan Provincial leader Tsai Ing-Wen
China has continued the divided status since 1949 when the China Communist Party defeated the China National Party. The CCP controls the Mainland China, whereas the CNP fled to Taiwan. Both the parties claim sovereignty of China including the Mainland and Taiwan; note that the CNP does not recognize Mongolia as an independent country, but considers it also as a part of China.
Over 70 years division of the Mainland and Taiwan, both sides have evolved in social and political systems, which have greatly influenced the development of economies and well-beings of people cross the Taiwan Strait. Such the divided status of China is the continuation of the China Civil War starting in the late 1940s. Obviously, most of the people from the CCP and CNP who participated in the civil war passed away, that have brought all the hates into history. Conciliation is needed for all people in China.
China President Xi repeats a peaceful unification of the nation, but stresses not to give up using force as an alternative option. However, the Taiwan Provincial leader Tai Ing-Wen rejects Xi's call that the Mainland and Taiwan are better to be reunified sooner than later. She wants Taiwan independence.
How to resolve this problem requires wisdom of all politicians and people in the Mainland and Taiwan. Is it possible to start negotiation between the Mainland and Taiwan governments to end the status of the civil war (status) by signing agreement first? Then, let people in both the Mainland and Taiwan to decide the fate of the nation via a nation-wise referendum: a) peaceful reunification; b) independence of Taiwan. This referendum should be carried out under the supervision of the United Nation Human Right Organization.
