“新谢泼德”号火箭发射时天空普遍晴朗,天气状况良好。
“新谢泼德”号不需驾驶员,全由电脑操控,太空舱共有6个座位,但此次只有4位搭客,包括57岁的贝佐斯和他53岁的弟弟马克,还有82岁美国资深女飞行员芬克,以及18岁荷兰少年戴蒙。
贝佐斯和3名成员18日曾参加速成训练班,为“蓝色起源”周二进行的首次载人航行做准备。
“新谢泼德”不会进入地球轨道,它会将船员带到离地表100公里的高空,然后用降落伞返回。“维珍银河”之前也曾完成创办人,即英国亿万富豪布兰森等4人的载人飞行,但它飞到的高度只有86公里。
专家称这是世界上首次由全平民组成的无人驾驶太空飞行全体人员。它代表了“蓝色起源”的首次载人航天飞行。
