澳大利亚国防部长彼得·达顿驳斥了中国对美英澳三国核潜艇合作的批评,称中国官方媒体的言论“不成熟”。达顿还表示,美英澳新三方安全倡议“AUKUS”安排下,可能会有更多的美国军队驻扎在澳大利亚。
达顿在华盛顿接受澳大利亚媒体采访时批评了中国在印度洋—太平洋地区的一系列行动,特别是在维持基于规则的国际秩序方面。
澳大利亚太空新闻在星期五播出的专访中,达顿表示:“我认为,我们从一些代表中国共产党的发言人和媒体上看到的那些宣传,坦率地说,为我们的立场提供了例证。我认为他们的言论适得其反,不成熟,坦率地说,令人难堪。”
《环球时报》攻击澳大利亚是美国的“走狗”,称澳大利亚如果因为有了核潜艇和攻击型导弹而“针对中国实施更加嚣张的挑衅,甚至在军事上犯贱,中国一定会毫不客气地对它进行惩罚”。
达顿在回答天空新闻记者的提问时说,澳大利亚是否会与中国开战,“这是中国的问题”。
“正如我们看到的,中国对澳大利亚、对英国、对这一地区伙伴的行动是一直在进行的,中国的确使用了网络手段和网上技术发动袭击。我们公开指出了中国的这些行为,这些行为已经形成了产业规模。我们在我们民主进程中看到了来自中国的干预,世界其他地区也有此类证据,我们面临的许多威胁因素,虽然远远没有达到开战的程度,但都在所谓的灰色地带,这包括对民主制度的干预,他们在我们地区试图施加影响力的行动达到了前所未有的高度。”
达顿还说,澳大利亚愿意看到更多的美国海军陆战队在澳大利亚城市达尔文进行为期10年的轮换。
