　“因为天生拥有一副好嗓子，21岁的维奥莱特·桑福德离开了谨小慎微的父亲比尔和安逸舒适的家，前往纽约去一心追寻自己的音乐梦想。

　　维奥莱特搬到曼哈顿的一座没有电梯的楼房，住进五楼的一个房间。她抓紧分分秒秒创作歌曲和录音，她踏遍了城里的每个角落，一边打工支付房租，一边拜访每一位音乐制作人。她甚至还参加了当地俱乐部举办的一个演唱会，结果一直困扰着她的心理障碍让她无法在众人面前一展歌喉。

　　经过无数次的碰壁，维奥莱特决定接受现实。她在“女狼俱乐部”找到了一份工作。这是由吝啬的女老板李尔经营的一个俱乐部，网罗着一群放荡不羁的年轻女子，它是城里最热闹的地方，充满着纸醉金迷的气息。在这里打工的女孩有轻佻的凯米、我行我素的雷切尔和擅讨小费的佐伊饰)。她们用各种火辣夸张的动作逗弄顾客，“女郎俱乐部”由此成为了浪荡子们乐不思蜀的声色之地。

　　在环境的影响下，维奥莱特终于挣脱了那些无形的束缚，用她的声音和性感吸引着酒吧顾客的目光。处在自我陶醉之中的维奥莱特并没有意识到自己无非是一个受人追捧的酒吧女，这份工作不仅仅让她失去了父亲的尊重，还让她险些与真正的爱情和梦想失之交臂……
