關睢

關關雎鳩，在河之洲。窈窕淑女，君子好逑。

　　參差荇菜，左右流之。窈窕淑女，寤寐求之。

　　求之不得，寤寐思服。悠哉悠哉！輾轉反側。

　　參差荇菜，左右采之。窈窕淑女，琴瑟友之。

Kuan-kuan, the ospreys

On the river’s isle

(Yes, the birds chase as glad as they can be)

Here comes the only lady:

delicate

and

nice;

A gentleman’s fit mate

Duckweeds

long 

and 

short;

Pick and pluck,

left

and 

right;

Your look lingers each morning out of each night,

and dreaming is wishing and wishing is having – 

but having is nothing;

Thirsty stirs from

nights

to

days;

Blue takes it me 

long beyond long, 

and deep beyond deep;

Toss and turn in bed

your look shakes my sleep

though I have closed my eyes

wake me with ungettable desire;

and

Pick and pluck

left

and 

right;

A gentleman befriends his fair lady

and Lute most welcomes Zither;
