Mex Cooper January 29, 2009 - 10:33AM A small child has been thrown from the West Gate Bridge into the Yarra River in Melbourne, say police. Paramedics are working to save the life of the girl, aged about five, police said. Police said the child was pulled from the river near the Spotswood off-ramp about 9.15am. Ambulance spokesman Paul Bentley said paramedics were administering CPR to the child on the banks of the river. The inbound left-hand lane of the freeway has been closed for about 500m on the approach to the top of the bridge.
