An 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following an altercation at Macquarie Park.

About 12.30am yesterday (Friday 2 October) it’s alleged the man fought with a 45-year-old woman at a home in Cottonwood Crescent.

Police will allege the man used a bottle of wine to repeatedly beat the woman on the head, shoulders, back and arms before strangling her, causing her to lose consciousness.

Investigating offices will further allege that when the woman regained consciousness the man sat on her and threatened to kill her if she attempted to leave.

About 8am the woman managed to escape and fled to a nearby shopping centre where she was found by a staff member hiding in a cold room.

Police and ambulance were called and the woman was taken to Ryde Hospital for treatment.

Officers also attended the Cottonwood Crescent address where the 18-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody at Ryde Police Station.

The home was examined by crime scene officers and a number of exhibits were seized.

The man has been charged with attempt to strangle with intent to murder, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and detain person with intent to obtain advantage.

He was refused bail and will appear in court today (3 October).
