If you have shares that are facing huge loss on paper now, would you consider selling them right now to realise the loss and buy them back on market at the same time? By doing so, you can have some tax benefits by offsetting any capital gains you might have in the current financial year, and the number of shares you hold remains unchanged. The only disadvantage is your buying price (cost base) for these shares would be lower therefore the capital gain will be higher in the future when you sell them.
