Do not quite understand the Core2 technology
What's the main difference between Core2 Duo core CPU versus the P4/P.M CPU?

If i am comparing P4 3.0Ghz with Core2 Duo 1.86Ghz,
which CPU actually run faster??
Can someone help to elaborate. Thanks a lot!
