周末无聊, 将朋友送来的问题计算机检测一番, 发现可修。
于是有了此帖。
朋友描述此机频繁自起。经检测,结果如下:
the report:
Two issues of your computer has been found and fixed.
1. Central Processing Unit (CPU) overheated (critical issue), which caused computer shutdown automatically.
Reasons: a) the chassis fan dead, and b) CPU heat sink clogged by dust.
Solution: a) replaced the dead fan, b) cleaned out dust on the heat sink, c) installed a software, System Info Viewer (SIV) , to monitor CPU temperature.
Results: computer has been running for more than 8 hours under heavy tasks, no automatical shutdown. CPU temperature range is 31-49Celsius(88 -120)Fahrenheit.
// Good!

2. Low virtual memory warnings.
Reasons: running out of physical disk space.
Solution:
a) cleaned out internet temporay files on C to make almost 4G space for C, and changed its path to D drive for future use.
b) changed virtual memory setting from "auto" to "customize", and increased virtual memory to 2G on both C and D (total usable paging area size : 4G ).
Results: computer has been running for more than 8 hours under heavy tasks, no low virtual memory warning sign. // Good!
Suggestions:
a) do NOT install any large application on the computer from now(existing ones are fine)
b) to use windows tool " Desk Cleanup"on both C and D drive before or after every time use of the computer; to monitor hard drive usage regularly in order to maint at minimum 3G free space on each drive. ( now free space on C and D are 4.14G and 8.42G)
Future suggestions (optional):
a) to increase physical memory from 1G to 2G.
b) to add additional hard drive to the computer, move all D drive files to the new hard drive, then combine exising C and D to a new C drive.
c) A brand-new computer
