CLINICAL INDICATION: Screening / Cardiovascular risk assessment.
TECHNIQUE: Informed consent was obtained. Scanning was performed with a 64
slice MDCT using prospective ECG gating. Mid diastolic reconstructions were
processed on a separate workstation. Techniques to reduce radiation dose
were used.
MEDICATION: None.
CONTRAST: None.
QUALITY: Good
FINDINGS:
CALCIUM SCORE:
Calcium score is calculated at 0. The Calcium score in each of the coronary
arteries is as follows:
Left Main:0
LAD: 0
Left Circumflex: 0
RCA: 0
The observed Calcium score is at 0th percentile compared to subjects with
similar age, gender and ethnicity (from MESA Study).
There is mild calcification seen of the aortic valve.
IMPRESSION:
1. Calcium score is calculated at 0.
Coronary artery calcification is a specific marker for coronary
atherosclerosis. The amount of calcification correlates with the severity
of coronary atherosclerosis. The higher the score the more plaque burden is
present and the higher the relative risk
! ! is for future cardiac events. The calcium scan is not designed to
diagnose coronary artery stenoses nor is calcium site-specific for possible
stenosis, but rather indicates the extent of atherosclerosis in the
coronary arteries overall.
Of note, a coronary calcium score of 0 does not exclude the presence of
noncalcified plaque.
