I am not sure if the final rules are in place or not. But I think it is ok to travel with AP and still keep H1B status after reentry.

If you applied EAD but didn't ask your employer to file 1-9 form, you are not in EAD status, you are still in H1-B status.

If anyone can find the final rules, that would be great.
