Canadian J-1 need waiver? duoduoduo2005-09-21 08:06:27

I am a Canadian citizen and I just got a NSERC (canadian government sponsored) post-doc fellowship doing research in USA. NSERC doesnot require me to come back to Canada after completing this program. My questions are:

Is there any way I avoid taking J-1 status?

If I must apply a J-1 status (although not visa), does any one here know that whether or not NSERC will provide no objection statement for me?
