I earned a Master degree in Engineering in the US. Because I can't find a job in my major, I have decided to take a job that I have little background in. The company is interested in my potential. However, because I don't have much background in their field, they only agreed to give me a technician position. The job involves programming, testing, and some designing. And they said if it works well, they can promote me to an engineer in a year's time.

Here are my questions:
1) Can I get a H1B visa for a technician position? And since I have a Master from U.S., can I use those extra quotas?
2) Can I start the PERM process as a technician? Or do I need to wait until I am an engineer to start my green card application?

Your help and suggest is greatly appreciated!!!
