Dream Appear
NR is a quiet girl. She likes swim and song…she always sits before songs, any kind of songs. She had played piano ten years, of seven years with a musician, professor of a Univ. in China. The professor once advised her to enroll the most Fames Musical College of the country. But she decided to come to USA and wanted to be a better life that just the one her whole family can live together. She had missed her dad so much for a long time. She gave up playing piano because of the poor condition and then worked very hard just wanted not to let her Dad say the word “disappoint” when the father asked her English word and she gave the wrong answer. One day in May 2005, she got a package from MIT and a letter included said she was accepted by Women’s Technology Program 2005 of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the program will aid whole financial: the tuition and travel and food and lodging. she was so amazed that she had never expected the result since her HS counselor advised the WTP program and she only followed her suggestion. The MTP is a project select 40 HS girls from all over the world. All most all attends went into top Rank College next year. The dream that she might enter a top Rank college was appeared before her eye. Back home from this program after meeting other 39 sweet and beautiful girls she gave more challenge to herself just preparing to the goal of enter MIT again.
Dream seems come
SAT Math 790 C Reading 740 Essay 11 Math II 780 Chinese 800 with HS average GPA 4.0/4.0 is not good enough to enter the top Rank college but might have a chase to be accepted. So she decided to try. Considering of our financial condition she focuses those colleges which have the reputation for willing aid poor family students. Sure the MIT is her favor since she had the experience through the WTP. Her dad strong suggests her try Harvard that is all Chinese’s dream. As a H4 holder she was not allowed to take the early decision process that is only for citizen and GC holder. She did not why her GC has not approved as her dad’s had arrived in Sep. She thought hers was coming soon, and she checked the mail box more often, wait and wait for her coming GC. Oct passed she missed the early decision opportunity, wait and wait; she was still thought her GC was coming. She began to send out all her applications without GC info included. Till the Dec when is the due time for application for major colleges of USA, she sends out the last one which is to Harvard at the end of the Dec after Christmas without her GC info included. But still thought her GC was coming.
Before the New Year some her MIT WTP classmates got the top Rank college admission letters and another one from our state was deferred from MIT. They all went in the early decision process.
Time turns to 2006, on 24 Mar her HS Math pattern, a boy (NR is the only girl in the top Math class of the HS for two years) was asked add a recommend letter from their Math teacher. She thought her dream seems can come. Time went to Apr that is the days all colleges gave their final admission decisions if accept or reject. The girl who was differed got her admission of MIT at the early Apr. The boy got Harvard admission two weeks after their Math teacher send her recommend letter to Harvard.
Dream broken
Unfortunately NR was rejected by both MIT and Harvard the same time as her classmates got admission. You can image how NR is upset as the dream was suddenly broken after it’s rising and rising.
I do not know if there is any connection between the 485 pending for Name Check Delay and my daughter’s MIT ( Harvard) dream. But just image if someone from Harvard（or MIT） quested USCIS why her dad’s GC is available from Sep. 23 and his daughter has not yet, if the office answered “for Name Check Delay” and showed how USCIS process “Name Check”:
“The Interagency Border Inspection System (IBIS) Name Check……USCIS can quickly check information from these multiple government agencies to determine if the information in the system affects the adjudication of the case. Results of an IBIS check are usually available immediately. …… FBI Name Checks—FBI name checks are also required for many applications…. After 7 months (Aug. 2005- Mar. 2006) pending for name check delay, what will the college think about? ….. Does she have trouble? Does she deal with crimes? She is among the “less than one percent” pool because half year has passed!!!…after Sep 11, 2001, security is the most sense theme. These questions sure are possible…… If the USCIS had just clearly responded “Name Check has cleared and the case is waiting for quota, “rather than “Name Check”...… My daughter’s dream would come… I do not know. ……..actually I am still worry about if our “Name Check” is clear. No message to us about our 485 process…….. NR’s MIT ( Harvard ) dream was broken during 485 pending for name check.
