I am an F-1 holder on my OPT, currently working for a U.S. company.
Social Security Tax and Medicare Tax (SS&M taxes) have been deducted from
my pay checks. I have two sets of questions here:
1. I know that SS&M taxes should not be deducted from my pay check
according to notes I have read from wenxuecity website. The payroll in my
compnay (I am the first foreign employee to them) does not know where to
find the necessary information. Besides, he has to balance the gross
payroll amount with the amount of SS&M taken out. Without proper
authorized information, he can't stop deducting my SS&M taxes. My questions
here are:
a. Where can I find official sources stating that an F-1 holder does
not need to pay SS&M taxes?
b. Which form(s) do I need to fill and file?

2. SS&M taxes have been deducted from my pay checks. How do I get them
back? Which form(s) do I need to file? How do I indicate the issues on
my Tax return form?
