I didn't get stamped was because I had the valid H1b status and I had my approval notice and original I-94 with me. The officer took a quick look at them, without checking on the computer system or stamping on it, he just let me in. I don't know if this was what you mean by "I-94 visa auto validation".
however, I asked him that in case I needed to fill out the address change form if I moved, should I use this new port as "last port of entry" or the original one. He said: "you should use this post". So I am confused here.
