I have called USCIS/NSC/ and asked for Service request (There is a number you can call- asked for service request if your case is outside of processing date),and a few others,
today, I talked to some nice agent from DC (USCIS, customer assistant's office)- he said my background check cleared on November 8, 2007.
He was responding to my Ombudsman letter (sent in Oct 07).
对了，关于“name check, background check",
The agent confirmed that name check from our home country is a part of background check.
