My hu*****and is going to change his job and we have to move to another city. A few days ago, we wrote to the manager of our apartment a notice and tell him that we plan to move at Jan. 8, 2008, or a few days later. We hoped to pay the rental fee of Jan. 2008 according to the days we lived. We asked them how to calculate the amount of the fee.
Today, Dec.9, 2008, the manager paste the return letter on our door. He wrote that his boss let him to tell us that they willing to allow us to check out on Jan.8, 2008 on the condition that we pay one half on January's rent, because their company policy does not allow partial month rent payments, and they hope to re-rent our apartment before 22nd, at which the Spring Semester at the University begins. The only other option is to check out at the end of Dec, 2007.
As when we move in, I paid a 20days rental fee for that month. I did not pay for a whole month or half month. They calculated the rental fee according to the days I lived in. I have the manager's written paper about the partial paid fee and deposit amount in hand.
As my son will come back to my home for holidays, He will return to the university at the date of Jan.8, 2008. So we could not check out at the end of Dec. 2007.
If they wanted us to move at the end of Dec, they should notice us 30 days earlier. Now they tell us at Dec.9, 2007, whether they should pay for the earlier stop of the contract.

Whether we could tell the manager that,1) when we checked in, we paid partial month fee; 2)if they wanted us move out at the end of Dec., they should pay for the stopping contract fee.

Previously, every time we move, the manager should bring us various problems. For example charge us money as less than a 1 year lease, return to us less deposit fee than we paid, et al.

How to manage the rental fee at this time? Whether we should perform according to the contract? I am waiting for your good ideas.
