Dear Mrs. Bush:
I would like to bring to your attention the unacceptable delay I am experiencing in my family’s green card application.
I have been in the US for more than 12 years. I graduated with Ph.D. and Master’s from XXX, and have been working for XXX for X years since my graduation. However, I still have not received my green card yet. We went through very long labor certificate process, then encountered the holdback of FBI’s name check. Now the visa bulletin has become another hurdle.
This very prolonged immigration process has put my family in a mental jail of anxiety and frustration. It has created extraordinary time and monetary burden for both my company and myself because we have to constantly apply or renew visas, work permits and travel documents. For example, during certain period of time, I used to drive from XXX to Vancouver, Canada every three months to apply for H1B visa, so that I could travel internationally to conduct research or make conference presentations. I am highly interested in political participation, but I don’t have the right in this country where I have made home. As a woman, I don’t have the choice to take a period of time off my work so that I can have another child.
I am at the forefront in my company or the industry to try to create innovation that will improve people's work and life worldwide. I belong to a small group of senior technical women in my company. I always work very hard for my job while raising two extremely talented sons. I love this country with my whole heart, and am very grateful for all the generous support I have received. When I went back to China, I acted like an ambassador, telling people about my wonderful experience in the US.
However, the immigration process always adds a taste of bitterness when I reflect on my experience. After all these years of dedicated hard work, I feel hard to accept that I still have to constantly worry about my job security and the scenario that my family might be forced to leave this country, and everything would be turned upside down for my children. My old son has been in the US since he was two years’ old. My younger son was born here. He is so proud of his citizenship that he aspires to become the President of United States. They are like two very healthy and young trees growing happily here, and who, I am very confident, will make great contribution to the future of America. As a mother, I am in constant fear imagining what will happen to them if we suddenly lift up the two “trees,” cut off most of the roots, and plant them into a climate and earth that is foreign to them.
I very respectfully ask for your assistance with my family’s greencards, which I believe have been well overdue. So many people who applied later have received their cards. This delay is unfair to our family. I also would like to ask for your and President Bush’s support to legal immigration reform so that legal immigrants can better concentrate their talents on their jobs, and we will not waste tax-payers’ money on unnecessary work.
By this letter, I give my consent for your office to request access to information related to my family’s I-485 applications with USCIS.
