I am currently in H1B but my employer is not willing to sponsor my Green Card. I just learned from Newspaper that some lawyers in NY area can help people like me to get Green Card through employment without my current company's help. They claimed that they can help me to get C9 card within 3 months and that card will allow me to work for any employer in US with no restriction. They also told me that I can renew this C9 card so I do not have to worry about the 6 year limitation that H1B has. The lawyer also told me that they can also help me to get Green Card eventually after 2-3 years, although it is not guaranteed. My understanding is that they use another employer to provide paperwork support for me to get Green Card in this case. Has anyone here heard such practice? What is the potential risk (other than money) associated with such activity? Please advise and thanks.
