My GF currently is holding a J1 visa which will be ended at the end of July, 2011. However, she was awarded another fellowship which can start anytime before June 1, 2013. She plans to start from Sept. 1, 2011 so that she can have a 30-day grace period (actually is 31 days for Aug. 2011). Here are some unclear questions for us:
1. Is that possible for her to ask her school to reissue a disconnected J1 form?
2. Will it get her into trouble in the future immigration if she uses a 31-day grace period?
3. What will be the prospective issues if she will go back to China sometime in 2012 to renew her J1 visa?
