One of my friend and her husband’s 485 welcome notices were mailed on 1/9/2015. She is the principal applicant. On 1/14/2015, her husband received the following notice from USCIS:

“Notice Was Returned To USCIS Because The Post Office Could Not Deliver It

On January 14, 2015, the Post Office returned a notice we sent you for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number SRC******, because they could not deliver it. This could have a serious effect on your case. Please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice immediately.”

They moved to a new house in Dec. 2014 and submitted AR-11 change address online before their moving. She received address change confirmation letter from USCIS. Her husband didn’t receive any confirmation letter.

(1)Her husband did e-request for a copy of 485 welcome notice immediately and also called USCIS to verify the new address. It seems that the new address has been updated in the system. Is that enough? Does he need to do anything else?

(2)Her status is still “my welcome notice was mailed” (on 1/9/2015). But so far she hasn’t received it yet. Does she need to do anything at the moment?

(3)How long does it take to receive green cards? Assuming USCIS mailed or will mail welcome notices to their current/correct address, they should mail green cards to the same address later on. Right? Do they need to do e-requests for green cards now?

(4)In the mail, USCIS said “This could have a serious effect on your case.” My friend is very worried about that. Will be there any problems associated with this undeliverable (for example, USCIS will deny their case and take green cards back)?

Thank you very much and all the best!
