I paid Socail Security and Medicare Taxes on each pay check I received.
For the year 2000 and year 2001 I worked in J-1 Visa. I should not pay for above two taxes for those two years. I am filing Form 843 to seek reimbursement. I am just wondering whether I can still get my money back for the year 2000, since I need to claim for the refund for the year 2000 by April 15, 2004 (within 3 years from the due date of the return). However, I did email my my employer BEFORE April 15, 2004 to request the refund (I still keep the email). But at that time the employed did not know whether I needed to pay it or not. Now we have just got the news that I should be exempt from those two taxes. Do you know whether I can still get my money back for the year 2000? How? Thanks!

It's very easy!
