Because my child does not have a SSN, I did not give it on my 2004 Federal Income Tax return. IRS sent me a letter said that I can not get the exemption because I did not give my child’s SSN or ITIN, so I have to pay the extra tax as well as penalty. Can I call them and explain the reason, and will not pay the extra tax and penalty? Many thanks for any information.
