The song was first recorded in 1953 by Darrell Glenn and became a much performed song especially among Gospel groups. Elvis Presley recorded it on October 30, 1960 at RCA Studio B in Nashville. In 1965 RCA released it as an Easter single and to their surprise it became Elvis' biggest single for over 2 years. One does not even have to believe in Jesus at all to be moved by music this beautiful.
