That we live in a human (not humane) society. Human rules. If dog gets in trouble with human, whether it is the dog's fault or not, the dog will lose in most cases. The best protection we can give to our babies is to teach/train them and watch them carefully, so our babies won't get in trouble with human.
I remember there was a post here that a dog got loose and chase another dog. The other dog owner was determined to put this dog to death and raised hxxx for this dog's mommy.
There was a case in our area, about 10 years ago. There was a burgalry. The thief/robber entered into a police lady's house. The police dog was home alone and attacked the thief. The dog was put down because some human right activist group claimed that the dog used improper force and could be an endangerment to other human
