A Morning in May
By Tian Yu Zhi
From the kitchen window
I see my birth month of May
green, fresh, a little wet with misty rain
The raspberries in the cereal bowl
carry the Sun’s promise, to make me
a little more tender and beautiful
Music flows down from the ceiling
surrounds me like moving clouds
melts away worries in a summer stream
Flowers on the patio
grow a new layer of petals overnight,
nature’s gratitude towards a gardener’s care
A stack of work in my office awaits for me to do
the thought of finishing them
makes me want to sing and swirl
I sip the coffee of life, delicious and strong
what needs to say, has been said
what’s in the past, engraved in memory,
What lies ahead in the future
yet to unravel, with hope ——
a good day has just begun
