“拉姆达”变异毒株于去年12月在秘鲁首次被发现，此后该变异毒株在这个南美国家占据主导地位。在首都利马，感染该变异毒株的病例约占所有新增确诊病例的80%。智利当局称，感染该变异毒株的病例约占该国所有新增确诊病例的三分之一。
瑞典卡罗琳医学院临床病毒学教授阿里·米拉齐米表示，目前对这种变异毒株以及它是否在全球传播的潜力知之甚少，现在说该变异毒株是否会在世界多个地方传播还为时过早。
