My I-140 EB1-OR was submitted in the end of last Sep and was approved in Feb, 2006. There were no any updates since RD until it was approved. It took about 4 months to get approved. So don’t worry, maybe tomorrow you’ll receive an email which said your case has been approved.
I don't think the background is very important. For EB1b, if only you have the four out of the six standards, you are good. But I do think the background of the references is very important and the organization of all your materials is also very important (the officer of INS can see everything in order and very clearly). I think the petition letter should be written very carefully: not too long (the officer will be bored) but very clearly state all the advantages you have.
