My 485 was approved yesterday (140: outstanding professor, filed by our university in 04/2004, approved in 07/2005, 485 filed in 04/2004). I called CIS the day before regarding my 485 status, then it was aproved the next day! So do not affraid to call to check the satus. It helped! in my case. The following is the messgae from CIS:
Application Type: I485 , Application to Register Permanent Residence or
to Adjust Status
Current Status:
On May 11, 2006, after approving your application, we ordered you a new
card. Your card will be mailed to you as soon as it is ready.
If you have questions or concerns about your application or the case
status results listed above, or if you have not received a decision or
advice from USCIS within the projected processing time frame*, please
contact the National Customer Service Center.

*The projected processing time frame can be found on the receipt notice
