Before your desk stands my parents, [Dad's name] and [Mom's name], who are applying for B-2 visas to visit me, their daughter, a [work title] at [company name]. On Nov. 26, 2000, they were unfortunately denied visas, according to Form 214(b), for the visit we tried to plan for Christmas of 2000. As such, I feel that it is particularly important for me to write this letter to emphasize some facts that clarify they have compelling social and professional obligations in China which ensure they will return and that the visit to the U.S. to just a vacation to see their daughter.
My parents have a strong, actually indispensable, relationship with China. My parents are retired and although they receive pensions from their previous employers they receive the bulk of their retirement income from the real estate they own in China and that they manage themselves. They own two residential properties and at least five commercial properties in China. Their monthly rental income is about 13,000 yuan (which in some cities may be a person’s annual income) and it is critical to their financial well being that they return to manage these assets. Also, the last property they purchased was in March 22, 2005 which shows their continuous desire to remain in China as a small real estate investment business clearly needs their local presence to be successful. In addition to the real estate business which is their core retirement income, they are also very close with their family and friends in China. In fact, my mother is the only child of my grandparents living in [city] and she and my father are their primary, in fact only, care givers. My parent bought a second apartment next to their own so they could better care for them as they are in there eighties. My mom is also heavily involved in her church and its volunteer work in the community. Additionally, she is a leader in the homeowners association for the last eight years. This requires a significant commitment of time and she feels a friendship and strong commitment to everyone in the association. My dad is also very involved in the church and volunteers each year to write in Chinese calligraphy the verses used to decorate during the religious holidays. He also practices Tai Chi each day with his close friends and has for as long as I can remember. Additionally, my parents have also traveled to a number of other western countries for their last vacation. They visited Italy, Vatican City, Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. They returned as scheduled and without any incidents or delays. Additionally, I have traveled back to China to visit them while I was a student and my six year H-1B expires in September 2006, at which time I required to return to my home country, China.
China is my parents’ home. If you need further information in support of their application for the temporary visas to visit me, I am sure they can supply additional materials that clarify their intent and strong motivation to return to China.
