How long is a H-1b visa valid? north1232006-08-09 02:39:24

I have heard that H-1b visa is normally valid for three years and can be renewed once for another three years. I just wondered whether it is possible to get a H-1b for two years first and renew it twice, two years each time. Both cases are six years total. Any information is highly appreciated.
