Is it Ok to Keep F-1 status and keep CPT/OPT optional after file 485?

someone said, once file 485, F-1 is not avaiable? So CPT can not be used? OPT is useless too? ALso, 6 years H1-b also not existed? We just try to use the 6 years h1-b in case current 485 fail. how to realize? Does anyone has some related material or experience regarding these?
