Dear friends,

I have had serious questions to ask for your help here.

I left company A a few months ago. The boss of company A now wants to give me a small amount of money (a few thousands) which he should have given me before I left. I have heard that a full time H-1B visa worker couldn't accept money from a third party. Since I have worked in company B for a few months, I am afraid that company A's money may put me into immigration legal trouble. Especially if company A gives me the money in a few times over a year.

I also have heard that a H-4 holder can't even volunteer in a company. I don't know if that is true. One of my friends wasn't able to get a H-1B visa in last year's crazy H-1B diaster. But his company likes him a lot and wants to keep him. He doesn't want to lose his position either. The scenario is he volunteers in his old position with an H-4 visa and the company promises to pay him back when he obtains his H-1B, hopefully this year. However, he is quite scared when he heard that he couldn't even volunteer.

Your help with these questions will sure cheer up my friend and me. Thank you!
