Hi 83211 and other helpers,
Thank you so much. Based on your help below you sent to me beofre , I have tow more questions and hope to get your help,
1. My son can use his existing green card to travel even we do not receive I-90 Application Receipt Note after file I-90 (because of out of home during travel). It means cusotm here will not give him trouble when coming back
2. When filing I-90, I have suuport dicuments as follows. Please kindly help to check if these are enough
1. I-90 application form with application fee: $370
2. The copy of existing green card
3. The copy of I-797 Approval Noice (for I-485 application, called approved I-485 right?)
4. The copy of alll pages of his passport
5. Cetification of Birth
As you know, his I-551 was lost, which was mailed to me beofre and green card was inserted in. I will get RFE to mail real card after file I-90.
Again, your kindly help is very appreciated.

Based on the immigrationlaw, your kid has to file the I-90 within 30 days after he turned 14. Because your kid's green card expires after he turns 16, he does not need to pay the I-90 filing fee of $290, but only needs to pay the Biometric fee of $80 if he files the I-90 within 30 days after he turned 14.
Now your kid did not file the I-90 in time, so he has to pay the filing fee of $290 plus the biometric of $80 (total $370) if he files the I-90 now.
The card does not need to be ted with the I-90 if it will expire after the 16th birthday, a copy is sufficient, but the service center will issue an RFE, and the old card must then be ted to get the new card. So, your kid can use his current green card for the travel after he files the I-90. Then, wait for the RFE to return the old card to USCIS to get the replacement of a new card.
Note that I-90 forms are ted through the Phoenix lock box.
