有网友让我谈谈timeshare。为什么说timeshare是我们的最佳“投资”？这个投资要打引号，因为买timeshare不是为了增值，而是为了消费。但是为什么说timeshare是我们的最佳“投资”呢，因为自从买了timeshare后，我们的旅游质量得到了提高,这比任何纸面上的数字更有意义。
1.一定不要从旅游时碰到的开发商的销售那里买timeshare；他们的价钱可能比Ebay上的二手timeshare高好多倍.
2.timeshare owner每年要交一定maintainance fee，可以换取每年固定一周（例如圣诞节）七晚三室套间(或更多，取决于你购买的数量）的度假权力。随便算算，七晚五星级宾馆这么大的套间是多少钱。
3.但是你很可能不想每年都在固定时间去固定的resort，那你就需要exchange with other timeshare owners.
4. There are websites that facilitate owners with such exchanges. The rules are very complicated. In order to maximize your vacation usage, you have to learn the rules; after doing so, you can easily get great deals.

In my experience of using the exchange websites, I have exchanged into 2-bedroom units in 5-star resorts at prime locations (ie, in Hawaii) with a list price of $500 per night as well as 3-bedroom private villas in Europe, and these exchanges only costed me a third of my vacation points per year, which means I could have 3 separate vacations in 3 different 5-star resorts per year, each vacation includes 7 nights of 2 bedrooms or 3 bedrooms villas! And I was able to book these vacations during school breaks such as Christmas holidays, summer vacations, spring breaks etc.
6. If I was going to pay cash for these villas, it would have costed me $500 * 21 nights = $10,500, which is way more than what I paid for my annual maintenance fee!
7. The best thing is that my family was able to stay in 3-bedroom villas with professional hotel management and amenities, with each of our kids having his/her own bedroom! And the villas have full kitchens with plates and utensils that we can cook whenever we want to! They are way more comfortable than regular hotel rooms!
8. It is true that sometimes we could not find good resorts to exchange to for the time and/or location that we wanted to go. Or sometimes our travel itinerary did not allow us to stay in one city for 7 nights. It is no big deal. We just use cash to stay at regular hotels for such vacations then. So far we have been able to use our timeshare points each year except for 2020 during which we could not travel due to covid.
9. Another benefit of the timeshare is that it kind of "forces" us to travel and take family vacations in places that we have not thought of before. In my opinion, this is a good thing, because I like to travel and collect fun family memories along the way!
