I heard that you can only eligible for social security welfare at retirement if you work for 10 years or plus.  I have been worked and contributed to social security tax for nearly 9 years now.  I just got a job offer. It is a government job and the salary is pretty good and with pension plan.  But that job does not need to pay social security tax.  Does that mean if I take that job, I will not be able to get social security welfare because I only contributed 9 years.

Thanks for any hint

I have never heard that government job does not need to pay tax. Can you ask them?

You need a minimum of 40 credits to receive Social Security benefit.
