SUBJECT: PLEASE VOTE AGAINST SEN. BYRD’S AMENDMENT

Dear Senator [Your senator name]:

I am contacting you regarding the Amendment introduced by Senator Robert Byrd at the budget reconciliation meeting. I urge you to vote against this amendment based on the following arguments:

1. The United States is an immigration country, and this is how US attracts top talents from all over the world and retains its strong competitiveness;
2. Outsourcing of jobs to other countries can be alleviated by hiring highly educated foreign workers and ultimately more job will be created, which will definitely improve the economy, particularly in biotech/pharmaceutical and IT industries;
3. The current healthcare system demands much more healthcare professionals including but not limited to nurses and pharmacists than US can provide locally, because of the retirement of the big population born in baby boom;
4. The L-1 visa fee in the Byrd amendment is a tax on business. The $1500 fee would not be used to improve immigration processing or otherwise make America more competitive. The fee sends yet another negative message that the U.S. is not conducive for business.

As a result, please vote “NO” on Byrd’s Amendment.

Sincerely,
