Dear Representative Lofgren,
I am writing to you to express my deepest appreciation for your quick and
strong action to solve the July Visa Bulletin fiasco. With the great effort
from you and thousands of employment-based immigrants, we achieved a
reasonable solution. As you pointed out, I believe it is really the right
way to foster the legal and orderly immigration.
As an employment-based immigrant, I also realize it may still take years to
become a permanent resident even though submitting the I-485 is already the
last step of this long journey. The “name check” by FBI can take years to
complete, which has become a huge deterrent in the legal immigration process
. Clear regulation of the “name check” is needed immediately. The
extremely limited visa cap for employment-based immigrants can be exhausted
very quickly. Among the employment-based immigrants, there are doctors
saving lives everyday, scientists developing cutting-edge technologies, and
engineers designing products that make people’s lives better. Why is there
such a cap to prevent these people from merging into this society and making
even more contributions? It is hard to answer but there is already an
answer – the SKIL Act of 2007 that exempts the highly educated immigrants
from the visa cap. The Act will not only increase competitiveness in the
United States but also encourage all immigrants to embrace higher educations
. With the sincere appreciation of what you have done for the employment-
based immigrant community, I look forward to having your help and support
for the above two issues.
Again, I greatly appreciate your effort and strong leadership. In the future
, I may or may not become a US citizen. But if I do, you have my vote!
