H1B expirea today, What can I do? baibai2007-09-01 18:29:03

Due to the low efficiency of the human resource of my institution, my H1B renewal was submitted to USCIS on Aug 20,2007 by OIS. My H1B expired on Aug 31,2007. The OIS expected to receive the receipt by Aug 31, 2007. Unfortunately,the OIS did not receive it yesterday. That means there will be a gap between current H1B and H1B renewal. I expect to receive the receipt next week, but not sure. What should I do now? Will this gap affect my green card application? Should I go back to China now? or just wait for the receipt? How should I handle the gap? The human resource told me continue to work till next week. I don't care about the work too much now, what I care is it might affect my I485 approval since I'm out of status now? Does anybody have similar experience? Thanks for any advice or suggestion.
