莫扎特 的 《小星星变奏曲》一共有四句. 歌词原著是一首流行的19世纪早期英文催眠曲诗, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" 作者 Jane Taylor, 全诗如下:

我读完了全诗，觉得可以唱，原作曲很短只有四句。 我自己就自己重新编排做了个伴奏，做了一首完整的歌。
其实哪,莫扎特也不是原作曲, 这个曲调是源自于一首法国儿歌："Ah! vous dirai-je, maman",【妈妈请听我说】，后莫扎特依此创作了《小星星变奏曲》；这个作曲也被其它歌用到， "Alphabet song" 与 "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep".
