I read this poem before, but only now by relating it to the discussions in this forum I appreciate it better. It doesn't yet prove its author being a genius, but still gives enough hints to the truthfulness, scope and masterly skill of a true poet. The poem captures the shift of the mindset of earlier humans entering the new culture of agriculture.
The agricultural China needed a deep enough land stretch to absorb the periodic invasions of the nomadic peoples from the north. 大一统 served this strategy well. By the way, the Roman empire, rimmed around the mediterranean sea, was unable to do that, thus failed into fragments.
